IS NON-MEAT DOG FOOD HEALTHY FOR MY DOG?

Feeding our dogs non-meat food is a contentious issue for some but one science is thankfully starting to address.

As an increasing number of families choose to feed their dogs non-meat diets for health, environmental and welfare reasons so the amount of research on the impact of plant-based and novel proteins on our dog’s health and wellbeing has increased.

Recent research shows that plant-based dogs have less frequent visits to the vet and live 1.7 years longer on average. We'd all like our dogs to outlive us! Unfortunately, this is rarely the case 😢 With the average dog living to between 10 and 13 years old the added lifespan of dogs fed non-meat foods is significant.

Plant-based ingredients contain powerful phytonutrients with antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties that are well researched for their ability to provide preventative support for skin and coat health, gut and digestive health, joint mobility and muscle health, oral and dental health, heart and eye health as well as brain and cognitive health.

The power of plants to heal is well known. They have been used in traditional medicine for 1000’s of years, the most well researched, and increasingly used to treat health issues in humans, being Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurvedic Medicine.

Bonza includes PhytoPlus™, a proprietary blend of phytonutrients, powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, that provides preventative support for many of the potential health issues your dog may suffer from.

A growing number of veterinarians, canine nutritionists, academics and scientists are now recommending meatless diets for dogs – read their views here.

Many of our dogs' common health issues are linked with meat-based diets including allergies, inflammation, digestive and gut issues, skin and coat issues.

Dogs suffering from digestive issues are often moved to a non-meat dog food by Vets as a way of improving their condition, with excellent success.

As Bonza is also a hypoallergenic dog food it reduces the possibility of your dog suffering digestive health issues and the inflammation and the resulting health issues it can cause.

‘Food as medicine’ is a concept that is becoming popular as we learn the importance of functional food and the benefits of nutraceutical food for our health and our dogs.
