HOW IS BONZA FOOD PREPARED?
Our food is a cold extruded product. This is a gentler cooking process than other kibbles and biscuits and a very similar process used to produce human foods like pasta.
We chose to use cold extrusion as our cooking process for a number of reasons.
Our food is extruded at a temperature of 70°C or less. By comparison high-temperature–short-time (HTST) extrusion process subjects food to temperatures ranging from !05°C to 150°C.
Firstly, and most importantly, cooking at a temperature of 70°C or less ensures that the quality proteins we use are not denatured. It also preserves vital nutrients including vitamins, minerals and probiotics as well as the health-giving phytonutrients in our PhytoPlus® blend, unique to our food.
We test our final recipe for vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients to make sure it meets or exceeds recommended FEDIAF (European Pet Food Industry Federation) and AAFCO (The Association of American Feed Control Officials) nutrient levels.
Cooking Bonza using cold extrusion also requires less energy and water to produce than high heat extrusion which requires more energy and steam (water), ensuring our cooking method is the most sustainable and environmentally friendly it can be.
