HOW MUCH PROTEIN IS THERE IN BONZA?
Bonza contains 25.2% of highly digestible proteins.
Bonza's total food digestibility score was established as 86.15% in QA testing undertaken (Laboratory Test No. M11213049).
Not quite rock star status, but high quality according to Whole Dog Journal' Digestibility Level Evaluation which rates protein quality in dog foods according to the following commonly accepted digestibility percentages:
- digestibility values of 75 percent or less - poor quality
- digestibility values between 75 and 82 percent - moderate quality
- digestibility values between 82 and 88 percent - high quality
- digestibility values higher than 88 percent - rock star
(It is interesting to read that studies show that fresh chicken actually does no better than poultry meal when it is finally produced into final dog food despite the marketing hype that surrounds premium meat cut inclusion in premium meat-based dog food brands)
Whole Dog Journal' protein digestibility ranking scores mirrors this digestibility research study undertaken by Daumas et al
Too much protein is not only wasteful as our dogs only burn what is required for energy and the excess is stored as fat and the by-products are excreted in your dog's urine (this is what causes the yellow spots on your lawn) but can place immense pressure on your dog's kidneys as it works overtime to flush the by-products.
AAFCO and FEDIAF nutritional guidelines both recommend adult dogs require a minimum of 18% protein in their diets on a dry matter basis and puppies and growing dogs 22%.
Our clean, natural protein sources include Sweet Potato, Oats, Quinoa, Chickpeas, Fava (Broad) Beans, Nutritional Yeast, Peas, Potato Protein, Pea Protein and Seaweed.
This combination of quality plant-based ingredients delivers a diversified, balanced and complete protein source in Bonza providing all the amino acids your dog requires from their food. In addition each ingredient also contributes its unique blend of health-giving phytonutrients to your dog’s food.
